Outdoor Lab (Rome) – Nube
Nube is a multipurpose space without border where the differentiation of spaces is not physical but sensitive. This floating kinematic structure is creating gradually various atmospheres from intimate spaces to free open one. The accumulation of cardboard tubes and wires and their disposition are influencing visitor´s feeling of space. Nube has to be seen as a big infrastructure guiding the visitor through the space. The absence of tubes are creating as in a forest open-spot where are disposed the main activities. Nube offers a full free space that can be easily transformed according to different needs.
Behind the apparent complexity, Nube is based on simple rules and elements: various sized cardboard tubes are suspended at different heights and inclination. By their aspects, stiffness, ease of implementation, cardboard tubes presents numerous qualities. Furthermore, as recyclable they also join an ecological approach.
Designed on parametric software, all the tubes follow the same logics and are assemble on the same way. It allows a fast and easy installation. Two parameters are variable, the balancing point which is giving the right inclination of the tube and the length of the wire which is giving the right height. Due to the parametric approach any change can be easily made according to the number of cardboard tubes available. Besides all the construction data, calculation of cost can be directly extracts.
By using standard element (cardboard tube) but by associating them to a non-standard logic, Nube is creating a continuous dynamic space which questions our notion of limit.
